3 Steps to Have a Kickass Morning

How to have a kickass day.

I want to take a few moments this evening and talk about how to have a kickass day by creating a morning ritual. The purpose is to prime your day the same way everyday, so that you can have consistent results.

Start the morning right.

Here are three simple steps that I use every morning to get ready for the day. Do not be underwhelmed by there simplicity. I recommend you practice them with an experimental mindset and see the results for yourself before you judge them.

1. Make your bed.

I get up really early and my wife is still sleeping. This does not stop me from taking my blanket, folding it half long ways, and laying it down on my side of the bed. After I take a moment to smooth it out, I top it off with my pillow. This is the first thing I do right after my feet hit the floor.

This first step is the trigger for the next thing, writing in my gratitude journal. It also puts me into a productive mood. I can say at the end of the day that I at least made my bed. As a side effect, My wife notices immediately if I made my side of the bed. It is normally the first comment she makes to me when I failed to do so. This means that the ritual not only affects me, but her as well.

2. Start and maintain a gratitude journal.

I will admit that I didn't think writing "I am so happy and grateful for..." would improve any aspect of my life. Well, I was wrong. I'm sure there is some great science out there that gets into the biochemical neurological reasons why it works, I only know that I am much happier now than before. If my baseline happiness was a 5 of 10 before, it is an 8 of 10 now. Try it and see for yourself.

3. Exercise.

I am now 40 years old and I exercise every day. Now before you get to excited, the core of my exercise program is walking. I am in no rush to play sports or crossfit or anything that I can get injured by. I simply walk on a treadmill on an incline for an hour. This is something that I can do and I am never soar afterward. This is what works for me. And because it doesn't cause me any pain, I can do it every day. The oxygenated blood flowing to my brain puts me in a very productive mood for the following four hours and I get most of my work done before lunch.

Find something that you can do every day and do it. There is always time, it will be a matter of priority. I can only say from my personal experience how awesome I feel every day knowing that I took some time to take care of my body.

Final thoughts.

I want everyday of my life to be a kickass day. I don't want 'bad' days, I want challenging days. These three steps for me are the elixir that transmute those bad days to just challenging days. They help me adjust my mind and prepare me for what life has to offer me that day.

In the end, you do you. You figure out what works for you and why you are here on the planet today.

Be a loner and perish; Be part of a team and thrive

Connecting. The human species is a very fragile and weak creature when are compared to all the other animals on the planet. We do not have thick skin, claws, the ability to run fast, climb, or thrive in environments beyond a very small range of temperatures. Our situation is even more dire when we are first born. The species family unit must maintain hundred percent vigilance for the first couple years of life just to be able to survive. By all rights, the human species should’ve been destroyed by everything else on this planet. So why are we still here?? From my personal experience, I believe it is because of our ability to collaborate with one another and work towards a common goal through task specialization and delegation. It is impossible to be all things to all people. Our natural talents and disadvantages automatically make us better at some things and worse at others. Through task specialization we can become more useful to those around us and becomes a key reason why others...

Do Not Let Fear Stop You

Risk. I have come to believe that the only denominator of ultra successful people is their ability to accept and manage risk. This factor above all others is the one thing that determines when you are ready to take your destiny in your own hands. This factor determines the type of job, school, significant other, and an infinite number of other things that you choose. So what is risk? In my humble opinion, what we deem as risky is a logical interpretation of our emotional fear of the unknown. That means when we say something is too risky, we are justifying our fears. If that is true, then what separates the risk takers from the security takers is their ability to act in spite of their fear. They don’t conquer, overcome, or squash their fears. They feel the fear and act. THEY FEEL THE FEAR AND ACT. In an attempt to take my own advice, I finally pulled the trigger and started my own business. It is registered with the state, has a business account, business structure, and by the end of ...

Resetting Life, Day 1 of 17

Ok, here it is. Day 1 of 17. A small sabbatical to get myself re-centered and upgraded. A time to rebuild who I am, so when I go back to the real world of work and the daily grind, I will be stronger and more capable to take on the world. Or so is the goal. The Plan. I am going to document my next 17 days here as part of a blog series called “Resetting Life”. It will be a way for me to look back on this time in the future and see what parts of this reset took hold in the long term. And of course, this is the best way I know how to share my experiences with you. Here is the list of the bigger accomplishments I want to have by the end of this reset. Some of these may be a little audacious, but that is the point. Consistently execute the One Meal a Day (OMAD) meal plan with a focus on fruit, vegetables , nuts, and seeds with a little bit of chicken or fish chopped in. Workout for an hour every day. Blog at least once a day and increase my subscription to 200...
